CPCU Society names Kevin Quinley the recipent of its Gotheimer Malecki Award
The Coverage, Litigators, Educators & Witnesses (CLEW) Interest Group of the CPCU Society recently awarded the George M. Gottheimer – Donald S. Malecki Memorial Award to Kevin M. Quinley, CPCU, AIC, ARM, ARe, RPA.
The award is presented to a CPCU Society member who has made an outstanding contribution to the field(s) of insurance, risk management consulting or education, insurance litigation or service as an expert witness as well as involvement in and support of the CPCU Society and the CPCU designation.
The award is named in honor of two titans of the insurance industry. Mr. Gottheimer was a reinsurance executive, expert and educator recognized nationally and internationally for his contributions and achievements in his field. He also served as an associate professor at St. John’s University, where he taught insurance and reinsurance management.
Mr. Malecki was an insurance consultant, expert witness and author. He wrote over a dozen books including ones forming part of the CPCU curriculum. Mr. Malecki authored hundreds of articles in numerous publications including the National Underwriter and Rough Notes. His work as a consultant and expert witness involved policy drafting, evaluation and auditing, risk management program design, and many other claims, underwriting and insurance management services. In 1998 he was honored with the Standard Setter Award of the Society of CPCU.
Both George and Don were lifetime active volunteers with the CPCU Society at the Chapter, Interest Group and National levels and were often presenters at Society Annual Meetings.
Mr. Quinley is an appropriate recipient of this award given his many contributions to the insurance industry and the CPCU Designation and Society.
Kevin has published over 700 articles and ten books on various aspects of insurance claims and risk management. He has been a contributing author to training and reference textbooks published by the Insurance Institute of America for its CPCU, ARM and AIC designations and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society’s RPLU curriculum. Publications he has contributed to include The Claimsman and Claims magazines and CLEW News.
Kevin has served as an expert on insurance claim practices and standards in over 90 litigation cases in 1/3 of the states in the United States. In addition to his CPCU activities Kevin has been involved in other insurance organizations including:
- Claims and Litigation Management Alliance;
- International Litigation Management Association;
- Society of Registered Professional Adjusters; and
- American Association of Insurance Management Consultants (AAIMCo).
Kevin’s significant CPCU achievements include:
- A course instructor for CPCU classes as well as the Institute’s Associate in Claims classes;
- Many officer positions of the CPCU Society’s Washington D.C. Chapter including President;
- Service on the CPCU Society Board of Ethical Inquiry, the Society’s Publications Committee and as a member of the CLEW Interest Group Committee; and
- Recognition as a CPCU National “Standard Setter”.
