Brent Winans provides, objective, fee-based insurance and risk management consulting services for mid-sized companies.  He also serves as an expert witness in insurance agents’ errors and omissions suits and other insurance litigation.

Risk Management – Brent helps his clients plug coverage gaps and obtain the most competitive pricing on insurance.  In addition, he implements other risk management techniques when they are more effective than insurance.  His extensive risk management background includes drafting insurance policy language, negotiating insurance policy placements, performing risk management audits and implementing self-insurance programs for businesses and governmental entities with up to 15,000 employees.

As Director of Risk Management for an international company, he oversaw the risk management program for over 30 companies with highly diverse operations – including a U.S. major league baseball team, the world’s largest broker of nuclear fuel, gold and uranium mines in the U.S., Africa and Australia and a potato flake manufacturer in Siberia. Recent risk management clients include firms in commercial real estate, construction, hotel and hospitality, agriculture, retail, non-profit and professional services.

He is currently the Vice President of Risk Management for Clear Advantage Risk Management, a division of the Plastridge Agency in Delray Beach, Florida.  However, if he is engaged as the consultant on a risk, Plastridge will not serve as the agent.

Expert Witness – Brent serves as an expert witness in insurance agents’ errors and omissions suits and other insurance litigation.  He has been retained numerous times by both plaintiff and defense attorneys and has experience submitting expert reports and testifying at both deposition and trial.

He brings over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, with nearly all of it serving either as an insurance agent, an insurance agency manager or a risk manager directing the efforts of insurance agents.  He began his insurance career in his hometown as a captive insurance agent handling primarily automobile and homeowners insurance.  Since then he has served as an independent agent managing middle market accounts, an agency manager, a fee-based risk management consultant and as the Director of Risk Management for an international company.  In that position he supervised the placement of coverage through eleven insurance brokerage firms covering operations on five continents.  In addition, he served for two years as the National Council on Compensation Insurance’s liaison to the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America in Washington, D.C.
